It’s official: Howard University President Dr. Wayne A.I. Frederick will retire in 2024. On Wednesday, Dr. Laurence C. Morse, chair of the Howard University Board of Trustees, addressed a letter to the Howard community that Frederick recently will step down by June 2024, the Washington Informer reported.
A triple alumnus of the university, Frederick, 50, is a Howard-trained surgeon who began as interim president in 2013, assuming his role as president the following year.
Frederick is a professor of surgery at Howard’s College of Medicine and a practicing cancer surgeon at the Howard University Hospital, according to his university biography. Frederick is among the highest-paid university leaders in the District, with a total compensation of more than $1.
