1. The Dunes Golf & Beach Club. The Dunes Golf and Beach Club features a long carry to the green and alternate tee boxes. There isn't a more significant course in Myrtle Beach than its second course, the historic Dunes, which opened in 1949 and put Myrtle on the map.
2. Caledonia Golf & Fish Club. The first solo design by Mike Strantz, Caledonia is more toned down compared to the late-architect's wilder stuff that came later.
3. King's North at Myrtle Beach National. One of the great holes in golf tourism is the "Gambler" on the King's North Course at Myrtle Beach National. I played this course the most during my time in Myrtle and with familiarity came an appreciation for Arnold Palmer's risk-reward layout full of holes you'll remember for a long time.
4. TPC Myrtle Beach. Current Time / Duration. Loaded: 0% Stream Type LIVE. Remaining Time - 1x Advertisement. Playing TPC Myrtle Beach with a top Grand Strand junior.
5. Fazio Course at Barefoot Resort. The Love Course at Barefoot tends to fare a little better in ratings panels, but I'm a sucker for Fazio's consistently gorgeous shaping (besides, the faux ruins of the Love course are bizarre).
6. True Blue. Designed by Mike Strantz, the challenging True Blue course in Pawleys Island, S.C. featured an island green on no. 3. Would I make True Blue my home course?
7. Tidewater Golf Club. Unquestionably one of the better waterfront settings on the Grand Strand, North Myrtle Beach's Tidewater is a real visual stunner with holes along the waterway holes on both nines, not to mention a good bit of elevation change uncommon to its neighbors.
8. Pawleys Plantation. I've always felt the Pawleys Plantation setting is one of the better ones in Myrtle Beach, and the green fees here are traditionally a little lower versus other top-shelfers.
9. Heritage Club. Heritage Club has a seriously scenic layout full of lowcountry mossy oaks and marshy vistas along the Waccamaw River. It's a fun design with plenty of teeth for better players with plenty of water to navigate and some stout forced carries, too.
10. Willbrook Plantation. Play golf courses in Myrtle Beach like Willbrook Plantation at the right time of year, and you'll enjoy great savings. I have great fondness for Willbrook Plantation, perhaps because it always seems to fly under the radar among Myrtle Beach's best courses.

1. Dunes Golf & Beach Club – Myrtle Beach’s most storied course was the runaway winner, collecting 24 first place votes. The Robert Trent Jones Sr. classic has hosted the U.S. Women’s Open and six Senior PGA Tour Championships, among numerous other events.
2. Caledonia Golf & Fish Club – If traveling golfers were voting, Caledonia might top the list, but the highly acclaimed Mike Strantz design had to “settle” for second.
3. Tidewater Golf Club – Tidewater has long been on the short list of Myrtle Beach’s best courses. With eight holes that play along either the Intracoastal Waterway or Cherry Grove, Tidewater is the area’s most scenic track.
4. Grande Dunes Resort Club – The waterway holes are unforgettable, highlighted by the par 3 14th, which is arguably the area’s most dramatic one-shotter.
5. Prestwick Country Club – This course has always been a favorite of Myrtle Beach insiders but finishing this high was shocking, nonetheless. That being said, our pollsters left little doubt as to their affinity for the Pete and P.B.
6. TPC Myrtle Beach – Earlier this year, Links magazine wrote of TPC, “I don’t think I’ve seen lusher, greener, or more perfect conditions.” What more needs to be said of a layout that has hosted the Senior PGA Tour Championship and been Dustin Johnson’s home course?
7. True Blue – This Mike Strantz design is currently ranked among Golf Magazine’s Top 100 You Can Play and Golf Channel travel guru Matt Ginella has it among his personal top 50, so this might seem a little low to some.
8. Fazio Course at Barefoot Resort – There isn’t a signature hole or defining trait that pushes the Fazio Course near the top of the heap. It’s just an outstanding layout from start to finish.
9. Dye Course at Barefoot Resort – The longtime host of the Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am, the Dye Course is as challenging as architect Pete Dye’s reputation would suggest.
10. King’s North at Myrtle Beach National – This Arnold Palmer design is one of Myrtle Beach’s iconic courses, highlighted by “The Gambler,” the unforgettable par 5 sixth hole.

1. BAREFOOT RESORT DYE CLUB, NORTH MYRTLE BEACH. The Dye Club has all the bells and whistles. From the tour-worthy range balls awaiting all players to the club scrubbing at the end of the round and all the shots in between, Dye has set itself apart.
2. CALDEDONIA GOLF AND FISH CLUB, PAWLEYS ISLAND. Thankfully, Mike Strantz didn’t pull the proverbial mic drop after his first solo course design. But after Caledonia Golf and Fish Club alone, he certainly could have walked away a legend.
3. DUNES GOLF AND BEACH CLUB, MYRTLE BEACH. The area’s second course has sustained with an air of prestige similar to that of a fully private establishment.
4. GRANDE DUNES RESORT COURSE, MYRTLE BEACH. The Intracoastal Waterway and the adjoining marina has added a scenic touch to the Grand Dunes Resort Course so few others can boast.
5. HERITAGE CLUB, PAWLEYS ISLAND. Built upon the former Midway and True Blue rice plantations, Heritage is one-part golf course, one-part visual paradise.
6. KING’S NORTH AT MYRTLE BEACH NATIONAL, MYRTLE BEACH. Arnold Palmer’s signature layout has drawn its share of attention for No. 6, also known as “The Gambler.”
7. TIDEWATER GOLF CLUB, NORTH MYRTLE BEACH. For more than a quarter century, Tidewater has racked up award after award, and a trip to the North Strand course proves none of the ratings panels regularly honoring it are blowing smoke.
8. TPC OF MYRTLE BEACH, MURRELLS INLET. No course in or around Myrtle Beach has a current PGA player’s name attached to it quite like TPC. The Tom Fazio design opened in 1999, and not long after, a budding Coastal Carolina University star named Dustin Johnson took a liking to the layout and eventually parked his golf school there.
9. TRUE BLUE GOLF CLUB, PAWLEYS ISLAND. How good was the Mike Strantz layout at Caledonia Golf and Fish Club? The property owners had him repeat the feat.
10. WORLD TOUR GOLF LINKS, MYRTLE BEACH. Who would have thought a replica course would be setting itself apart for its originality? At World Tour, where the slogan is “Around the World in 18 Holes,” some of the most notable and well-designed layouts from Earth’s famous clubs form this one-stop shop.

1. Caledonia Golf & Fish Club. Pawleys Island. Exoerience championship golf in a Lowcountry setting at this former rice plantation that has been converted into a golf masterpiece.
2. Dunes Golf & Beach Club. Myrtle Beach. A Robert Trent Jones signature course (he oversaw its renovation in the 1970s and early '90s), The Dunes was completed in 1948 and stands today as one of the Strand's most respected golf clubs.
3. Barefoot Golf Resort. Barefoot. Featuring four outstanding courses, the Barefoot Resort is truly a destination unto itself, especially for golfers. The Norman Course features striking holes along the Intracoastal Waterway and takes full advantage of the natural landscape.
4. TPC Myrtle Beach. Murrells Inlet. Untamed wetlands and rugged pine forests characterize this scenic course, designed by the legendary Tom Fazio. Indeed, Fazio's aim was to create a course that would not take away from the features of the landscape, and each fairway seems to brandish a different natural hazard, whether it's a water feature or an expanse of wetland that must be carried.
5. True Blue Plantation. Pawleys Island. Widely regarded as one of the Strand's - even one of South Carolina's - top golf courses, True Blue features wide, immaculate fairways, rolling terrain and an abundance of beauty that also serves as potential trouble.
6. Grand Dunes: The Resort Course. Myrtle Beach. Enjoy all the modern conveniences of golf as well as two excellent courses at the Grande Dunes. Laid out along the Intracoastal Waterway, the attractive Resort Course appeals to golfers of all skill levels.
7. Heritage Club. Pawleys Island. After playing a few holes at the Heritage Club, you may just find yourself wishing that you'd brought your camera instead of your driver.
8. Tidewater Golf Club. North Myrtle Beach. As the third of more than 100 courses to open on the Grand Strand, Tidewater is a historic treasure. Designed by Ken Tomlinson, a native South Carolinian, Tidewater pays homage to the courses of the early 20th century – that is to say, his intent was that this course fit the landscape and natural beauty of the area.
9. Rivers Edge Golf Club. Shallotte. An Arnold Palmer signature course, Rivers Edge sits on the banks of the Shallotte River and offers an outstanding arsenal of breathtaking views and championship-caliber holes.
10. Big Cats of Ocean Ridge Plantation. Ocean Isle Beach. Ocean Ridge Plantation offers golf so good that it makes the 30-minute drive up Highway 17 seem well worth the effort.

1. Hackler Course at CCU: Longtime visitors may remember this 18-hole layout tucked away in a quiet Conway neighborhood as Quail Creek. That was before nearby Coastal Carolina University took over operations as part of the school's renowned golf management program.
2. International Club: This William Byrd design is surrounded by more expensive courses that make up the Waccamaw Golf Trail, but this Murrells Inlet course holds its own among bargain-shopping golfers.
3. Myrtlewood Golf Club: Flanked by the more prestigious and semi-private Grande Dunes and Pine Lakes golf courses, this 36-hole public facility offers a similar setting for a fraction of the price.
4. The Pearl: This 36-hole North Carolina course is about 30 miles north of Myrtle Beach in the fishing village of Calabash, but The Pearl is well worth the trip.
5. Possum Trot: This North Myrtle Beach course is a popular hangout among local golfers who have found the place to play a cheap round. It’s not Augusta National, and it doesn’t aspire to be.
6. Whispering Pines: The only municipal course on the Grand Strand has come a long way over the past year. After hiring a new management company to keep the course from losing public funds, the new group has turned things around at the Myrtle Beach muni.
